Providence, Rhode Island – Youth

Ministry Overview

To bring the hope of Jesus to overcome the despair in Providence, your team will run summer Bible clubs in parks and other locations in the community. The intent is that the Bible clubs will connect the children who attend and the families they represent with the local church body in their community. Soup kitchen, clothing distribution, and homeless ministry may be a big part of this mission project, as well as breaking down spiritual strongholds in the area through prayer walks and basic service projects.

How You Can Pray:

  • Pray that God will go before you and soften the hearts of the children and their parents so they will take part in the Summer Bible Clubs.
  • Pray that God would open up opportunities for you to share the truth with those in the Providence community you come in contact with.
  • Pray that God will provide the people of Providence with a sense of hope, despite their circumstances and the poverty that surrounds them.

About This Location:

Rhode Island is called the Ocean State and is famous for its rocky coastline. Newport in particular is known as a playground for the wealthy. Whereas Newport is known for being a playground for the rich and famous, just 30 miles to the north of Newport lies Providence, a city with a population of 160,000 people. Providence is a small city where 40 percent of the children live below the poverty line. High unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse and an overall dysfunction in families and society has led to a feeling of despair. Many children are left alone for long hours to just fend for themselves.

Food and Lodging:
Food is prepared on site. Lodging will be air mattresses and sleeping bags in various rooms in the church. It is possible that some leaders will be able to stay in actual bedrooms and possibly bring small children along.
