STM 2017 Puerto Rico (San Juan/Salvation Army)

An adventure awaits you in Puerto Rico!

Smiling tourists never imagine the truth of life in Puerto Rico.

A commonwealth of the United States, Puerto Rico offers wealthy residents and tourists the comforts of America as well as exotic beaches and a relaxed Caribbean culture.

Sadly, almost half of the population lives below the poverty line, and unemployment always remains high. Most of the Puerto Rican people do not have access to services such as police protection and emergency medical care.

Many families have been torn apart by emigration—almost half of the island’s people have moved to the United States.

For many, it seems poverty, drugs, and crime will be a constant reality for the rest of their lives.

You can share the promise of abundant life in Christ no matter the circumstances (and hope for the future!) with the people of Puerto Rico.

Ministry:

While in Puerto Rico, you will partner with the Salvation Army. They have a number of ministries throughout the greater San Juan area. Your team will be matched with the most immediate needs. Ministry opportunities include:

  • Kids Ministry: You might have opportunities to get to know and impact children and families in local communities through Vacation Bible School. Whether you are playing sports or working on a craft, you’ll be able to share the love of Jesus through a child’s favorite language: fun.
  • Community Outreach/Work Projects: There might be opportunities to help with minor work projects in the local community, like painting or sorting clothes for a local thrift store.

Will you share the love and hope of Jesus in Puerto Rico?
