STM 2017 South Asia (Base)

An adventure awaits you in South Asia!

South Asia has one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but this growth comes at a cost.

Despite a growing middle class, a terrible rift exists between the rich and poor of this mainly Hindu country. More than just dollars and lifestyles, this gap began generations ago in the caste system, and it has left the lower-caste people of South Asia without hope.

In the South Asian culture, daughters are viewed as costly. Not only is a girl’s family expected to pay the expense associated with raising her but a bride-price, although outlawed, is still commonly expected by her future husband’s family.

In far too many cases, baby girls are killed or abandoned. Orphanages are filled with girls who have been dumped by their families and are desperate for love and attention.

South Asia also faces public healthcare challenges and continues to exile sufferers of leprosy from their communities into leper colonies.

The poor, abandoned, and outcast in South Asia need a new future.

Ministry:

Your team will serve in the Manipur region of South Asia, partnering with a local ministry.

While at there, ministry opportunities include:

  • Village Ministry: Whether it’s community outreach, helping with various work projects, sitting in a local restaurant, or just walking down the street, the most important thing you can do is build relationships. Everywhere you go and everything you say will be an opportunity to share the love of Jesus.
  • Church Planting: You might have an opportunity to help a church plant grow in a local village, encouraging the members and helping with any needs they might have. You could preach in villages, share testimonies, or lead worship in church as well. You might even be able to help physically construct a church building.
  • Poverty Relief: You could serve in a community of extreme poverty, sharing the hope of Christ in an area of deep pain.

Will you share the love of Christ in a country that does not know Him?
