STM 2018 DR (Hope for the DR)

An adventure awaits you in the DR!

Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, the Dominican Republic shares an island with Haiti.

After the earthquake, the country became a refuge for thousands of displaced people.

Although known for its vast sugar plantations, the nation’s economy depends on tourism. Political corruption is a lasting issue, along with the expanding gap between wealthy and poor.

A favorite pastime the Dominican Republic is baseball, and the kids will play it all day long! They fully embrace the “island life” and the people are extremely friendly and laid back—quick to welcome and enter into conversation.

The people of the DR love deeply—and are searching for love themselves.

Ministry:

You will serve with a local ministry in:

  • Kids Ministry: You could help with summer camp with local camps, sharing God’s love through a child’s favorite language: fun.
  • Community Outreach: You’ll walk through your local community and go door-to-door, getting to know people living nearby, hearing their stories, praying for them, and sharing the Gospel.
  • Work Projects: There also might be an opportunity for small work projects in the local community.

This trip is for your student ministry if:

  • Your students love playing with kids
  • Your students love camps
  • Your students love the Latin American culture, speak Spanish, or would like to learn
  • You love for your students to serve alongside established, local ministries reaching their communities
  • You want your students to grow in their faith while sharing God’s love with others

Will you share God’s love in the Dominican Republic?
