STM 2018 New Orleans Family Mission Trip

Parents: You want more than a vacation — you want to adventure with your family. You want for your kids to feel significant, empowered, and for their efforts to count for something. You’ve read about the way the followers of Jesus lived in the first century, and you long for that kind of life, for you and your kids — where living out your faith means hearing the voice of God and changing people’s lives.

You want to take your family to the next level with God. You want changed lives.

Adventures in Missions has taken more than 115,000 people on mission trips around the world. Through various short and long-term programs, Adventures In Missions helps people from all walks of life discover the world, who Jesus is, and what Jesus has called them to: making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28) and being his witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1).

Imagine experiencing firsthand, with your family, how to listen to the voice of God, serve others in high-need ministry contexts, and make a real, tangible difference in the lives of others.

If you want to join a Christ-centered community committed to doing what the first generation of disciples did, then it’s time for you to join us in…

New Orleans is a hopping city full of good food, music, and rich culture.

Located on the Mississippi River, this city is the birthplace of jazz and a melting pot of French, African, and American cultures. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orleans, striking a devastating blow to the livelihood of every resident. Nearly 80% of the city flooded, leaving a trail of destruction. Overnight, thousands of people became homeless and unemployed. The nation rallied around relief efforts in the early days following the hurricane, but slowly national attention shifted further away from those whose lives were destroyed.

It takes far more than bricks and lumber to rebuild a devastated city. Your youth group can partner with those who are helping rebuild lives and restoring hope in New Orleans.

Ministry

While in New Orleans, you will partner with a church plant just outside of the French Quarter, an artistic, musical, bohemian, and expressive are of the city. This church serves two local communities in Upper 9th Ward, reaching out to the specific needs in each area. This means your ministry opportunities could include:

  • Homeless Feeding and Ministry: New Orleans has a high homeless population in different pockets of the city. You could have a chance to serve and engage with them through food servings and water distribution. This is a great way to hear people’s stories, learn from them, and offer encouragement when possible.
  • Rehabilitation Facility: Participants may also assist individuals in their daily responsibilities at a rehab center. Those who work and live at the center are recovering from a former addiction. You’ll assist either in facility projects (maintenance, painting, etc.) or alongside individuals at the thrift store in their daily job duties.
  • Katrina Relief: Even a decade after the hurricane, there are still areas of the city needing repair and people who are displaced, trying to start a new life. You might have the opportunity to help restore their homes while touching their lives.
  • Urban Plunge: This is a great chance to get to know the city and the different groups of people that are there. You’ll jump on the trolleys and head into the city. While on the trolley you’ll have a chance to start conversations with people. Then you jump off and spend time in downtown NOLA, meeting people and learning their stories.

Lodging

You and your team will be in a dormitory style building with bunk beds, western toilets and showers, and clean drinking water! You’ll have electricity for sure, but wifi is a maybe — which just means you’ll have more time for ministry and community!

God is calling you to journey with Him, to share His love with the nations and establish His Kingdom on earth. Will you join Him in New Orleans?

Pray for New Orleans

Many opportunities remain for missionaries and ministries, church planting and pioneer work. Pray for good church-mission relationships, and for the hope of the Gospel to be the focus of the people in the midst of the recovery from travesties like mass-shootings and hurricanes.
