While Puerto Rico has faded in the news and most relief agencies have moved on, there still remains 1000’s of families without a home.  In Puerto Rico, many are still waiting for power, clean water, or for their homes to be rebuilt. And while power isn’t available everywhere yet, there is enough infrastructure for Adventures to begin to host teams and help Puerto Ricans as they begin to rebuild their homes and their lives. Join us in Puerto Rico as we rebuild homes, offer restoration, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 

You should know:

• The entire island of Puerto Rico was devastated by a Category 5 hurricane. The hurricane destroyed the power grid for the entire island leaving 3.4 million U.S. citizens in the dark.  

• The most pressing need is electricity and clean drinking water. Water filters and generators are a prized commodity.

• Restoring families with a dry safe home by cleaning debris, sorting through belongings and rebuilding walls and roofs are all ministry opportunities waiting for an army of volunteers to help out.

Ministry

• Clearing debris: Many people have gardens they depend on for food that need to be cleared and restored.

• Homes with tin roofs have been blown away and tarps are being used. Roofs will be a major rebuild focus.

• There is a need for sorting and distributing supplies in small towns and remote communities.

• General construction is needed in most areas. There are thousands of homes that were totally destroyed or extremely damaged. With our partners, Adventures is mainly seeking to help in the following ways:

• Clean up and construction prep

• Wall and floor construction

• Roofing

• Painting

• Community outreach through critical supply distribution

Get involved! 

• Sign up for one of our trips.  Custom trips are available if you do not see dates that may work for your group. We have identified partners for lodging and ministry. Puerto Rico is still in desperate of volunteers.

• Donate. Puerto Rico has 1000’s of families without a way to restore their most basic needs.  There are building supplies, tradesmen and community networks that need money to begin to restore communities one home at a time. If you can not physically join us on a trip, please consider making a donation to our Disaster Relief Fund.

• Pray. There is sadness and despair in Puerto Rico — so many families have been without power and basic essentials for months and hope is waning.  The people need to know the love of Jesus and His peace that surpasses their personal pain and situation.   

 God is calling you to journey with Him, to share His love with the nations and establish His Kingdom on earth. Will you join Him in Puerto Rico?

Aside from the devastation left by the hurricanes, the issue of Puerto Rico’s political identity divided the nation in the past. Independence, US statehood or the current arrangement of the Commonwealth are all options, but most people now seem content with the status quo. Many are concerned with the increasing Americanization of government. The biggest problem may be, however, the high levels of corruption that plague local government. Pray for wise governance that works for the best interests of the islands’ inhabitants.
