A catastrophic storm has sunk southern Louisiana in over five feet of water. Baton Rouge and its surrounding area suffered the most from the unprecedented rainfall.
Over 40,000 homes have been destroyed, 30,000 residents have been displaced, and 20,000 people had to be rescued by the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Louisiana National Guard. The massive scale of this disaster prompted President Obama to declare a state of emergency for the state of Louisiana. It’s estimated a flood of this magnitude happens only once in every 500 years.
Residents of Baton Rouge have lost everything. Their clothes, food, heirlooms, furniture and homes have been ruined by the rain and mud of the record-setting storm. The community in Baton Rouge and all of Louisiana is responding in strength and unity, and Adventures in Missions wants to come alongside them in recovery and relief efforts.
We will be partnering with local churches, ministries, and local World Race Alumni in the massive relief effort. Our efforts will be focused on gutting homes, clothing, food, and item distribution, and home restoration.
