AI 2016: Otoe, Ponca, and Pawnee Tribes – Oklahoma

An adventure awaits you in Oklahoma!

Oklahoma is home to 52 American Indian tribes, more than any other state. Yet the Osage is their lone reservation.

It appears the 51 tribes without reservations do better than any others. However, the reservation system has led to the loss of dignity, self-respect, self-sufficiency, honor, and means of supporting themselves, in addition to the nationwide devastation of Native people groups.

The resulting hopelessness and bitterness have spilled over into American Indian people everywhere, even in Oklahoma. Alcoholism permeates even relatively healthy communities, leaving children hurt, raising themselves, and feeling unloved.

Ministry:

  • Kids Ministry: Your team will serve at a VBS with a local church, teaching, playing, and laughing with 40+ kids ages 4-13, sharing the love of Jesus through their favorite language: fun.
  • Relational Ministry: You will have the opportunity to meet those in the local community, sharing conversations, laughter, and stories as you make lasting, impactful relationships. This is a great opportunity to learn more about another culture while living your faith.
  • Service Projects: It is possible you will be able to help in light work projects, helping out around the community where it is needed most.

Through their summer camps, VBS, and special programs, our partners at Otoe Baptist and Camp Crossway are working to restore and strengthen Native families so their future is one of hope and peace.

Let’s come alongside and help them achieve that goal.
