The Dells is also the home to the Native American Ho-Chunk tribe. The Ho-Chunk (meaning “people of the big voice”) tribe owns 4,000+ acres across 12 counties, most of which are in and near the counties that the Dells shares. As of 2001 there were 6,159 tribe members.
