Bahamas 2014

An adventure awaits you in the Bahamas!

Tiny islands dot the sparkling blue water, showcasing this nation’s facade of pure luxury, but this idyllic vacation spot harbors some dark secrets.

The Bahamas are full of history and adventure. The islands have been a haven for pirates, explorers, and weary vacationers alike.

While tourism and financial services dominate the economy—one of the wealthiest in the Western hemisphere, these riches, though, the divide between rich and poor seems impossible to bridge.

Hurricanes frequently devastate the low-lying Bahamian islands, perpetuating the already deep divide between the rich and the poor. While the rich build strong structures to protect themselves from damage, the less fortunate occupy shaky homes that are vulnerable to destruction.

Farmers struggle to survive while the rich play in the sand and sun. The urban poor fight for equal access to education, healthcare, and housing.

Because the Bahamian islands are typically seen as solely a vacation spot, much of the suffering goes unnoticed. The Bahamian people need you to look past the nation’s luxurious reputation and bring hope and life to their islands.

You may bring security and comfort to the displaced as you work on construction projects to provide shelter for the residents in the poorer areas of the islands. You may share the love and joy of Jesus with the local children as you host Vacation Bible School.

If your team is assigned to reach out through beach ministry and park evangelism, you’ll share the hope of Jesus to the underprivileged who feel left behind. Whatever you do, show them that the love of Jesus is more than just words for the rich.

The unnoticed in the Bahamas are waiting. Will you show them they’re not forgotten?
