What Is Needed

Chattanooga is the fourth-largest city in Tennessee and has a population of 168,293. According to government figures, Nearly one of every five students in the area lives in poverty. Despite overall growth in the local economy since 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates the number of school-aged children living in poverty in Hamilton County has increased by more than 30 percent from 2000 to 2005.

What You Will Do

As you minister in Chattanooga, your group will see what homelessness is like for men, women, and even children. While there are certainly those within the city who need Jesus, the focus of AIM’s ministry in Chattanooga is working with the less fortunate and homeless.

In Chattanooga, teams will be working with the Salvation Army and their programs throughout the city. Participants may have the opportunity to assist with Sunday services, preparing devotions, assisting with arts and crafts, planning and executing Vacation Bible School for children as well as homeless adults, Bible studies, prayer walks, ATL, random acts of kindness, praying for people, handing out water, as well as assisting with a construction project of a paved path.

About This Location:

Chattanooga lies in Southeastern Tennessee, on the Georgia border.  The city, which has a downtown elevation of approximately 680 feet, lies at the transition between the ridge-and-valley portion of the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. The city is therefore surrounded by various mountains and ridges. The official nickname for Chattanooga is the Scenic City.
