An adventure is waiting for you in Dallas!
You don’t have to have a passport to serve people who are fleeing persecution in their homeland.
The fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States, Dallas boasts famous historical sights like the grassy knoll and the JFK Museum that attract tourist from far and wide. Dallas is home to Fortune 500 companies and billionaires. But this affluence has also attracted a large immigrant community that struggles to adapt and discover the American Dream.
Nearly twenty percent of the population lives below the poverty line. After living for years in temporary camps, over ten thousand Burmese refugees struggle to understand and adjust to the American way of life. Iraqi and other Asian immigrants bring an even greater variety of religious and cultural influences to the city. The world has truly come to Dallas.
Dallas is also a city of contradictions. Despite immense wealth in the suburbs, the large homeless population speaks to the inequalities present here. In this land of huge homes and mega churches, individuals on the street need love and hope.
The refugees and homeless in Dallas need your help.
Your team could minister to children, many of whom were born in refugee camps. Teach them to play soccer and other team sports, do crafts with them at Vacation Bible School, or simply play with them in the park. These kids are desperate for attention and love.
You could also minister to the adult refugees and homeless. Partner with ministries like Dallas International Street Church, Our Calling, and Vickery Baptist Church to further the work they’re already doing in Dallas.
Even if you only stay a week, you could make a long term impact on the communities in Dallas. Come deepen your faith as you see what God can do in a short amount of time with people who are willing.
Over a million people call Dallas home, and the city boasts an ethnically diverse population that fosters a culture of cooperation, but the local refugees’ and homeless needs are greater than Dallas can meet on its own.
Will you leave the comfort of your home to help the people of Dallas?
