Join us at Dusty Pines Work Camp!
Dusty Pines Camp, out in the forest between Gallup and the Zuni Nation, provides a safe and loving haven for a group of local, Native youth who have chosen to follow Jesus. This place of safety is beloved by the youth in spite of the verbal, and sometimes physical, persecution they know awaits them from family and former friends for deciding to attend. With the help of Christian teachers and mentors, and supporting each other in the family of Jesus, they are able to persevere and grow in their faith. One day, they will be leaders in their community.
Your team will be given opportunities to meet with these teens when you attend church in Zuni on Sunday, and when you attend their Wednesday evening Youth Group meeting. If yours is primarily a youth team coming in August, several of the Zuni youth group teens will spend Tuesday-Thursday, including Tuesday and Wednesday nights, working alongside you and fellowshipping at the camp.
Your mission is to help further develop this camp. Projects include: new septic tank and leech field, new shower house facility, remodel interiors of two, old mobile homes to be used as camp dorms, build a screened-in picnic shelter. Skilled building trades people are much needed. But, work projects vary in skills demanded, so youth teams are also able to contribute significantly.
Come help shape a place where God will always be honored first, and where Native young people can learn about him in physical and spiritual safety.
It’s about what the Father is doing in the lives of Zuni Christian teens. It’s about giving them a place to share, to disciple one another, and to be discipled. Camp is one of the few places they feel safe – where they are not threatened with severe persecution, even by family, because they follow Jesus instead of Zuni traditional religion.
Your team will bring joy, perspective, and encouragement to share with the Zuni youth and local ministers. And you’ll have a ton of fun in the process!
It’s rare to find a mission supported by a host who is so knowledgeable in Native customs and culture. He serves an active Zuni youth group of about 20, with a core of eight teens fully committed to Jesus. Their resolve and commitment is awe-inspiring! Don’t miss this opportunity to do cross-cultural ministry in the U.S.
