Haiti – Youth

What Is Needed:

While we rejoice for their spiritual revival, relief work is far from over. Many homes remain piles of rubble. Hundreds of thousands of families live in tents made of tarp and scrap metal. Food is still scarce, jobs are even more difficult to find, and there doesn’t seem to be any way out. And every Haitian remembers all too well the day their world tumbled upside down, split open, and claimed the lives of so many loved ones. This is your opportunity to bring the love of God to this devastated nation.

What You Will Do:

Be prepared for a life changing experience as you stay with one of our local hosts and minister within walking distance from your Haitian home. AIM assists several local pastors work diligently to meet the needs of their people. Possible ministry includes orphanage visits, prayer walks, relational evangelism, home visits, tent city visits, sports outreach, rubble removal, medical clinics, vacation bible school, Bible studies, church services, and food distribution.

How You Can Pray:

– Pray for divine appointments as you meet those that are desperate for a touch of God’s love.
– Pray for strength for our Haitian Pastors as they diligently care for and lead their flock.
– Pray that Jesus’ name prevails over those still caught in the deception of Voodoo.

About This Location:

Haiti is known to be the poorest country in the western hemisphere with most of its 10 million inhabitants living in poverty.  It has been plagued with political unrest for over 200 years and has struggled to maintain a stable economy.  The climate along the coast it hot and humid year round with the rainy season* falling between May through July.

*When it rains it only rains an hour or two at a time.

Food and Lodging:

Teams will enjoy delicious Haitian dinners prepared carefully by our hosts and usually include rice and a pasta dish.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided by AIM.

Teams stay in a concrete building or house that is secured with a lockable gate, steel bared windows, and some times a perimeter security wall along the property.  Depending on the team size everyone may not fit comfortably in the building and may need to use a tent on the roof or on the property.  Teams should bring mats and be ready to sleep on the floor.  Facilities include western toilets and showers.

Safety Issues:

Since the earthquake Haiti has remained in a fragile state and we at Adventures in Missions are constantly doing our best to stay up to date on the current security risk. We receive daily updates from international security agencies, stay abreast to headlines, and are in constant communication with our partners on the ground to determine the most accurate picture of the actual security risk.  If the security assessment reveals that conditions in Haiti are too volatile for teams the trip will be canceled and the participant will be contacted by an AIM representative.

Since October 2010 the spread of Cholera has spread throughout regions in Haiti, drawing international attention.   However, as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention states, Cholera is easily preventable and treated when the proper precautions and measures are implemented.
