What Is Needed:
In contrast to Hawaii's paradise-like sunsets, mountains, beaches, waterfalls, rainbows, and tropical flowers are ugly statistics revealing the deep social and spiritual needs in this society. A significant drop in tourism, the state's main industry, has hurt many local families. Many long-time Hawaii residents can no longer afford to buy homes here. Because there are a lot of poorer areas there are an influx of felt needs including poor medical, hopelessness, domestic abuse and addictions. Because the weather is so temperate, the homeless also flock to Hawaii, making it a big challenge.
What You Will Do:
There is a lot of ministry needed here, one of which would be to work with a community of Marshallese islanders who are essentially refugees here. There would also be many evangelism opportunities throughout the entire Island.
How You Can Pray:
Pray that the Lord would break down the resentment felt as a result of a deep wound of injustice they feel from the descendants of early missionaries who took part in the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893.
Pray that God would reach the hearts of the Hawaiian people, preparing them to once again hear the message and see who He really is.
