But this growth comes at a cost.
Despite a growing middle class, a terrible rift exists between the rich and poor of this mainly Hindu country. More than just dollars and lifestyles, this gap began generations ago in the caste system, and it has left the lower-caste people of India without hope.
In the Indian culture, daughters are viewed as costly. Not only is a girl’s family expected to pay the expense associated with raising her but a bride-price, although outlawed, is still commonly expected by her future husband’s family.
In far too many cases, baby girls are killed or abandoned. Orphanages are filled with girls who have been dumped by their families and are desperate for love and attention.
India also faces public healthcare challenges and continues to exile sufferers of leprosy from their communities into leper colonies.
The poor, abandoned, and outcast in India need a new future.
Your team could bring the promise of Jesus into orphanages and share it with little ones who need to know they are loved. You could show these children that each of them is cherished by God.
You might visit with lepers, showing them grace and acceptance as fellow children of God. Connect with them, listen to their stories, meet their families, and hold their hands.
Your touch can bring them dignity and hope.
