PP Fall 2018: Haiti and the Dominican Republic

What if you could take a semester to set aside the books, to serve nations in desperate need of the hope of Jesus, all while going deeper with God than you ever imagined?

Take three months to step outside your comfort zone and join other Christians on this life-changing missions adventure into Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

In just a few months, you could be among a team of 10-20 missionaries serving in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Your focus for these three months is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, living a lifestyle like the early disciples did as they followed Jesus.

You want to find your role in the kingdom. You are searching for something more. You are trying to figure out God’s plan for your life. You want to go and live like Jesus did and serve the least of these. The one-week mission trip isn’t enough for you anymore.

We understand how you feel because God lead us all down similar paths. We are a team of passionate missionaries who’ve had our lives radically changed through sharing God’s love to the nations. Our desire is to train and mobilize young people who have experienced God’s love in their lives and who want to grow closer to Him by sharing it with the world.

I remember the first time I was able to see the light of hope in someone’s eyes as I shared through tears how much God loved them. It changed my life and I think that’s what you’re craving too.” Sam Kirby, Passport

We work with long-term established contacts around the world focused on providing valuable, sustainable ministry to uplift locals and spread the hope of Jesus wherever we go.

What to expect on your trip:

1. Mission (Matthew 28:16-20)

Learn how to serve others the way Jesus served them. Learn how to share your story and share the hope of the gospel.

2. Intimacy (John 15)

Dive deeper with God. Understand who He is in your life.

3. Community (Acts 2)

Learn how to be the church! Go and practice real Biblical community with others just like you.

The island of Hispañola, with its beautiful sandy beaches and tropical weather, is home to the neighboring countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is soaked in history. One of the first landing points for Christopher Columbus during his 1492 encounter with the Americas, it later became the site of the first European colony. Europe’s influence on the island can still be seen in Santo Domingo, the oldest colonial city in the Western Hemisphere.

Although known for its vast sugar plantations, the economy of the DR now depends on tourism and the service industry. Political corruption remains a lasting issue, as does the ever-expanding gap between the wealth of the rich and the poverty of the poor.

While many Dominicans claim Christianity as their faith, estimates suggest that 70% of people are Christians in name only. Indigenous religious customs steeped in witchcraft still thrive in the villages of the DR. Dominicans need to encounter Jesus in a fresh way.

Haiti

The DR’s westerly neighbor, Haiti, once shared its beauty. But after years of political corruption, natural disasters, and abject poverty, the poorest country in the western hemisphere is now depleted of resources, economic opportunity, and hope.

Though Christianity has a recognized presence on the island, voodoo is the main religion and its adherents live in varying states of fear and power.

Haiti needs hope. Haiti needs the love of Jesus.

Here’s what you could do on a Passport trip:

  1. Teach English
  2. Organize Vacation Bible Schools
  3. Encourage local believers

Prayer works. Miracles happen. God is alive. I saw God move in and through me in a way I had never experienced before. Something about taking that first step out of your comfort zone allows God to come in and RADICALLY change your view of Him and others in the process.Gabriella Ford (Passport Alumni)

So what are you waiting for? Grow in your faith. Learn to live as a modern day missionary. Learn who God is in your life. Understand the value of Biblical healthy community.

God is calling you to journey with Him, to share His love with the nations and establish His Kingdom on earth.

Will you go?
