God is in the business of making all things new- and nothing could be more true of Kenya. Behind the beautiful landscapes and adventurous safaris, Kenya has a reputation and history of extreme poverty, violence, and corruption. But if you look even closer, God’s Kingdom is on the move and His children are being redeemed.
Largely due to missionary presence and evangelism, Africa has become home to the largest population of Christians in the world. The baton of evangelism will have been passed from Europe to the US and now handed off to Africans.
Due to the incredibly fast growth and explosion of new believers, there has been a lack of discipleship – if any at all. Author Keith Phillips said, “To excite someone to become a believer without equipping him to lead a Christian life is cruel irresponsibility. There is no higher calling, no clearer commission in the New Testament than to reproduce in others the character that God’s Spirit has created in you. Christ expects every Christian to bear spiritual fruit.”
Our mission is pretty simple. “Make disciples.” Over the past few years, discipleship has become a trend within the American church (praise God) but people’s definition of discipleship can differ, so here is ours.
“Discipleship is the process of becoming who Jesus would be, if He were you.” – Dallas Willard
That’s the vision of Adventures Kenya – to help others step into the likeness of Jesus, and in the process try our best to look like Him ourselves.
We’re not a school sponsorship program, but we’ve provided many kids with the opportunity to go to school. We’re not a construction team, but we’ve built a house, chicken coops, cow sheds, all in order to give shelter and employment. We don’t have a feeding program, but we average 15 or more for dinner each night in our home. We’re definitely not an orphanage, but we have children… I think you get where I’m going.
We do our best to be led by the Spirit showing others what Christ’s love looks like.
Behind the Acacia trees, elephants, and lions lies a an adventure – a calling. Come join us.
