STM 2016 Bangkok, Thailand

*Please note: Men are welcome on both trips, but will have separate ministry and lodging from the women on this trip.

An adventure awaits you in Thailand!

Behind Thailand’s beautiful beaches, the Thai people’s ever-smiling faces, and the lush tropical jungles lies a terrible secret: modern day slavery.

As the Thai economy strengthens and the natural beauty draws visitors, tourism of a different sort also flourishes. Human trafficking and sexual tourism continue to grow.

Buddhism teaches the Thai people that their futures are predetermined by karma. Traffickers ensnare hopeless women into prostitution. Impoverished parents see their young daughters as commodities, selling them into slavery for food money.

The women and children of Thailand need your help.

Ministry:

You will stay and live missionally in Bangkok, home of the oldest and largest Red Light District in Southeast Asia. Began as 2 bars servicemen visited while on leave from the Vietnam War, Patpong now encompasses entire city blocks. Over 4000 men, women, and teens work in its multiple-storied buildings. Advertised as a night market, tourists come from all over to purchase souvenirs – and are lured into the bars just steps away. Your team will:

  • Live Missionally: A primarily Buddhist country, every person you meet is likely someone who does not know Christ. Whether in a local restaurant, massage parlor, or shopping at the Weekend market, every interaction is an opportunity to share the love of Christ with someone who does not know him.
  • Learn and Encourage: You will meet ministries on the frontlines of human trafficking in Bangkok, learn firsthand the reality of trafficking in Thailand, spend time with women who have left bars and are in process of restoration, and encourage those who have dedicated their lives to fighting modern day slavery.
  • Red Light Ministry: You will walk the streets of Bangkok, spend time in the Red Light District, and tour national monuments interceding for this city and this nation. You might have the opportunity to sit in a bar and talk with a woman on her break, learning her story.
  • Kids Ministry: Over the years our teams have held VBS for the children of market vendors in the Red Light District. Through coloring, sculpting with play-doh, or playing games, you could share the love of Christ with a child steps away from the open doors of a bar.

When you join us in Thailand, you can bring love and hope for the future to women trapped in prostitution. Share a promise of forgiveness that they have never imagined.

Men who go on a trip can expect to participate in daytime prayer walks in the red-light districts and to intercede through prayer and worship while the women minister. Men will also build relationships with other tourists and Thai nationals.

Human trafficking is one of the largest modern day justice issues in the world. The women of Thailand need you to show them light in their darkest time. Will you come?
