STM 2017 Jamaica (Kingston/Salvation Army)

An adventure awaits you in Jamaica!

Jamaica’s beauty attracts millions of tourists every year, but poverty lurks just beyond the resort gates.

Lush mountains descend to white, sandy beaches. High in the hills, families crowd into ramshackle houses, little more than sheds. And those families are the lucky ones. Homelessness is rampant, and mothers abandon children they can’t feed.

Many Jamaicans turn to false gods to answer their desperate pleas for help.

You can share the hope of a real and loving God with those seeking Him.

Ministry:

While in Jamaica, you will partner with the Salvation Army in Kingston. Ministry opportunities could include:

  • Work Projects: Help with maintenance on the property of a school for the blind while the kids are away for the summer.
  • Kids Ministry: You could do VBS or sports ministry at an orphanage and in the community, sharing the love of Jesus in kids’ favorite language: fun.
  • Elder Care: You could visit and encourage the elderly in a retirement home, letting them know they are not forgotten.
  • Community Outreach: Every moment, from walking down the street to shopping in a market or an off day at the beach, will be full of opportunities to live your faith and share hope with tourists and Jamaicans alike.

Your team will be immersed in the real Jamaica. Far from the flashy resorts, you will experience firsthand the deep need of those who feel forgotten. You will show love to the brokenhearted and deepen your own faith in the process.

In the true Jamaican way of “No worries, mon,” plans tend to change. An open heart and a willingness to serve where needs arise will ensure that you have an adventure to remember in Jamaica. You might even have the opportunity to climb the breathtaking Dunn’s River Falls on a free day.

Surrounded by the riches of tourism in one of the most beautiful places on earth lies a country whose people experience poverty and loss. Will you share the love and hope of Jesus with the people of Jamaica?
