Known best for its beaches, the Philippines appears to be paradise. However, not everything is perfect in this beautiful country. The Philippines has a serious trafficking problem of women and children illegally recruited into the tourist industry for sexual exploitation. The promise of recruiters offers women and children attractive jobs in the country or abroad, and instead, they are coerced and forced and controlled into the sex industry for tourists.
Connie Rock, owner and founder of Purchase Effect, has been leading these trips for years. This will be the first year that we will be including a new way of sharing the gospel. Not only will we be in the red-light districts, but in the markets and malls where the purpose is to build relationships that open the door for a long-term partnership with Purchase Effect. Purchase Effect exists to share the gospel thru creation, beauty, relationships, and partnerships.
Outreach to one of the notorious red-light districts, Angeles City for one night for exposure to the issues at hand. We learn by witnessing and interacting with the women. You learn about the… why we partner with Wipe Every Tear (WET).
Most of our time will be spent with the girls who have left Angeles City to get an education and live with others who are embracing their new faith and freedom. There will be an extensive amount of time at the homes doing art with girls or creating a new product with Jorelli, who manages the livelihood program and Connie Rock, Adventures staff and founder of Purchase Effect! Business vision casting will be the core of this trip – with Christ being at the center of all the relationships.
Plan on being on the move as well as we visit villages outside of Manila and common markets/malls in Metro Manila. What will you eat? I hope you like Indian, Chinese, Spanish or American food. Together, their influence has created a mixed cuisine!
Our team will stay at a guest house, get around by the most popular local transportation called Jeepneys. They are known for their crowded seating and kitsch decorations, which have become a symbol of Philippine culture and art. Worried about not speaking Filipino? Don’t be, the majority also speak English!
Be prepared to make new friends, learn, teach and explore this amazing country! All while growing in your own faith by sharing the gospel in a unique way!
God is calling you to journey with Him, to share His love with the nations and establish His Kingdom on earth. Will you join Him in the Philippines?
Sex trade workers. Up to 100,000 children and 400,000 women are involved, many of them trafficked to other countries. The sex industry is apparently the fourth largest source of income. Pray for all involved in rescuing, rehabilitating and discipling these tragic victims of sin.
