The Bahamas – Hurricane Relief (Individuals)

Hurricane Dorian left the Bahamas reeling.

Our partners say this is an opportunity for change. Join us in serving those in need!

On Sunday, September 1st, 2019, Dorian made landfall in the Abaco islands in the Bahamas, forever changing the lives of thousands. A little over a day later, Dorian had laid waste to countless homes, businesses, boats, harbors, restaurants, grocery stores and anything needed for day-to-day life. Some families stayed and survived the storm, with nothing left but each other. Some authorities estimate it will take over ten years to recover from the devastation.

With your help, we can work together with the local church to begin rebuilding now.

*** NOTE: These trips are only for individuals. To apply for a trip as a group, go here.

What will we be doing?

Don’t have construction skills? No problem!

Work together with churches on the ground to address the needs of the community. Our partners need help with a wide range of things, including:

  • Food distribution

  • Rubble sorting

  • Trash removal

  • Land clearing

  • Light construction

We work directly alongside the families that were affected by Dorian, helping them to restore their lives. You’ll get the opportunity to build relationships with them throughout the week as you literally pick up the remnants of their lives.

If you have specialized skills, please let us know! We want to utilize your expertise.

Where will we be staying?

There are two lodging options:

  1. In camping tents that you bring. Depending on the area of focus and the timeframe of your trip, lodging may not be available. Nearly every building where we’re serving has been destroyed or deemed unusable. We’ll be using outdoor showers and outdoor kitchens (lots of grilling!).

  2. On the floor of a church. Depending on the area of focus and the timeframe of your trip, lodging options may or may not be restored. In this option we will also be using outdoor showers and outdoor kitchens. Think grilled chicken, rice and beans.
