Costa Rica is an adventurer’s paradise, known for its stunning beaches and beautiful rainforests. But outside of the tourist destinations, there are large pockets of poverty and brokenness. The country itself is transitioning from self-sufficient farming lifestyles to more urban living. Traditional morals and lifestyles are giving way to a modern, consumer-oriented world. The people of Costa Rica need to remember the unchanging love of Jesus—and that it is still real and relevant to their lives.

You will work with Metro Ministries and YWAM Ministry in Puerto Viejo. Metro Ministries works to rescue hurting children and teenagers; offering them a message of salvation and love that encourages them to stay in school and away from drugs, gangs and other destructive or criminal behaviors so common in inner-city environments.

From VBS to after-school programs and everywhere in between, you can share the love of Jesus through kids’ favorite language: fun.

You may do sports outreach, do door-to-door outreach, help with work projects.

Pray for Costa Rica
The Roman Catholic Church is deeply impacted by charismatic renewal. Many have come to a living, personal faith in Christ, which has strengthened the Catholic Church (higher mass attendance, more indigenous seminarians and priests). Although 73% of the nation is Catholic, this percent declines every year, and most Catholics are quite nominal in their faith. From the charismatic renewal, many left the Catholic Church for evangelical churches; however, large and increasing numbers of “post-evangelicals” have returned to the familiarity and structure of Catholicism. Pray for both charismatics who stayed in the Catholic Church and those who have returned – may their faith bring further renewal to the mainstream of Catholicism.
